September Meeting - by Irena
The meeting opened with Deirdre welcoming members and reminding them of the forth-coming events that were happening in the next month. Members were reminded they could see further details in the information Kate had emailed to us regarding these.
We were reminded how we were to present items we were going to display at our Exhibition next month and shown the beautiful raffle quilt to which we had all contributed to by making blocks. We were also reminded when to bring out quilts and members were thanked for volunteering but more volunteers are still needed as we have three halls to cover. Members were also asked to bring any Christmas decorations they had. Deirdre said that 200 quilts would be exhibited.
Ian said that the Instagram page had more than 500 views regarding the Exhibition.
The sales table with lots of lovely fabric and also dies for the Sissix machine. It’s always interesting and fun to see what we can buy.
The meeting then broke into three parts. Some members made and sewed bags for the new quilt stands that had been built. Some members very kindly took fabric home to make more bags.
There was a demonstration on mitred corners as well as one on making hanging sleeves for the larger quilts.
Other members had bought their own sewing to do, such as paper piecing, completing quilts and one lady was embroidering a woollen piece of material with exquisite designs which would later be made into an evening bag.
It was a different evening to ones which we normally have, a chance to see what other people are creating and speaking to people you’ve never spoken to about their work.
