May Meeting and AGM - by Gill S
This evening’s meeting began with a brief AGM. Deirdre as our chair, summarised the events of the last year at Shirley Quilters, reminding us all of just how many varied and interesting activities we have experienced as a group.
The business part of the meeting was covered with an update on the committee members, including a report from our Treasurer, Jackie, who gave us a brief summary of the accounts and giving us an opportunity to ask any questions. Jackie then shared the news that she will be stepping down as Treasurer after maintaining the accounts beautifully for the last 22 years. The whole group expressed their thanks to Jackie for her work keeping us straight financially!
Deirdre presented Jackie with some flowers and a voucher for afternoon tea at The Landing at Biggin Hill Airport which hope she will enjoy. The group then welcomed Nicky F into the position of our new Treasurer.
Eileen shared an update on the membership at the present time and said there are places available for new members. She also gave an update regarding the website. The group recognised how much Eileen does for the group and thanked her for her work.
Kate then gave a brief summary of the results of the questionnaire members completed in December. The most enjoyable evening will not be a surprise to most members - our Christmas Social evening!!
We then had the opportunity to give our thoughts on items we would ideally like in next year’s programme.
Viv and Freddi then showed the group some lovely items that have been made ready for the tombola in October. They also shared ideas of items we could make with the reminder that we especially need items suitable for children- boys in particular.
The final item at our busy meeting was hearing from some members about their first quilt or a piece of quilting that means something special and why.
Thank you to everyone who shared their story and showed us their work. It made the evening very personal and inspiring.
