Making Fabric Flowers - by Irena

The meeting began with the ringing of the bell and Dierdre reminded us of the exhibition, she asked for a show of hands to see who was going to have something to exhibit and it was wonderful to see all hands go up.

Our meeting this week was making fabric flowers. One of our members, Jenny, had already sent us out information of what we should bring. There were also resources such as felt and fabric on the stage for people to use which had been bought by Jenny. As well as this on each table were small and large circle templates which we could use during the evening as well a sheet of paper showing in photograph form, the stages of making the flower. This was extremely helpful because we could follow it and see what stage we were at.

Jenny asked us to cut out five large circles which were to become the petals of our flowers and then demonstrated how we were to sew the circles to become petals which then become a separate flower.

Once we had made a flower we were shown how to add the felt circle to stabilize our flower. Jenny also gave each of us a brooch pin so that the flower could then become a brooch. Those of us who completed our first flower went onto making a daffodil, which we could complete at home.

It was an interesting and productive evening, as all of us were able to work at our own pace, ask Jenny questions if we were unsure of the next step and to end up with a completed flower.

Jenny provided us with information sheets, her demonstration was clear and easy to follow and she spent the evening going around members with help and advice.

A very enjoyable evening – thank you Jenny.
