Shirley Quilters Review of March meeting – by Ann S
The March meeting was billed as Appliqué /communal make evening and it was well attended.
The room was set up with tables for eight people with a sewing machine at most of them.
The communal make was banners to use as signs at our Exhibition on the 17th October. Members set themselves up into teams, some cutting material, batting (the soft layer in quilts) or Bondaweb, some ironing on the Bondaweb to material to make the lettering and signs and some sewing everything together. The signs will show visitors to the Exhibition which way to go to find the numerous quilts which will be displayed and others with instructions to follow. The teams worked well and the required number of signs were made.
At one table Jenny was showing the art of Reverse Applique which was a popular table and lots of members took it in turns to have a go.
Erica, a young mum member, popped in to drop off work she had completed but couldn’t stay the whole time due to having left a nervous husband babysitting their two little boys. Chrissie presented her with a beautiful quilt for her little boy Felix who is still very young.
The evening wound up with a show and tell where members show the quilts they have made, some of which will be given to Project Linus, out chosen charity.
Below is a photograph of the quilt that was made for Felix.
